Sarus Crane used to distribute throughout South-East Asia, now being confined to Cambodia, extreme southern Laos, south Vietnam and parts of Myanmar (Birdlife International 2022).
In Vietnam, they were recorded in Tram Chim National Park (Dong Thap), Phu My wetland (Kien Giang), Lung Ngoc Hoang nature reserve (Long An), Lo Go Xa Mat national park (Tay Ninh) and Yok Don national park (Dak Lak).
The mentioned areas used to have relatively undisturbed wetlands and grasslands that the Sarus cranes use as their home. Nowadays, human activities had degraded most of these areas. As the result, the numbers of Sarus crane coming to Vietnam has significantly decreased due to habitat loss. (Birds of Vietnam, 2018, Richard Craik & Le Quy Minh).
There are many conservation programs that target the local community awareness and restoration of wetlands to recreate habitats for Sarus Crane and another migratory birds. (Birdlife International 2022).
