Our Projects

We research multiple aspects of biodiversity, ecology and conservation of nature. We especially focus on the ecology of endangered species and how to utilise them as flagships for conservation.

Dugong in Con Dao Archipelago, Vietnam – Rediscovering a “lost” local species

Our project’s goal is to fill the current gaps on dugong ecology in Con Dao National Park (NP) of Vietnam, with strong emphasis on aspects that drive conservation managements for this species at the local level. Our specific objectives are: (1) assessing the spatio-temporal patterns of dugong’s presence in Con Dao NP; (2) investigating how the dugong utilizes the sea and seagrass areas of Con Dao NP; and (3) identifying hotspots for dugong conservation management in Con Dao NP.

BIFA Project: Citizen science to monitor the diversity and distribution of cetaceans in Vietnam.

Our project aims to simultaneously acquire and mobilize georeferenced data on cetaceans (including whales, dolphins and porpoises) along the entire coast of Vietnam. We will use a multidisciplinary approach to consolidate data on cetacean diversity, abundance and distribution in Vietnam from three main sources: (1) the numerous cetacean bones in collections stored in fishing villages along the Vietnamese coast, (2) the vast information on human-cetacean

Conservation of Cetaceans in Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve, Kien Giang Province, Vietnam

The overall goal of our project is to implement long term, multidiscipline approached conservation programs to protect cetaceans and their habitat in KGBR with collaboration of local communities and relevant governmental agencies. As the first cetacean conservation project in KGBR, our project need to start by building robust baseline on cetacean in KGBR, including their distribution, abundance, and their interaction with local communities. Such baseline allowed reliable recommendations…
