Four-eyed Turtle

Four – eyed Turtle (Sacalia quadriocellata) is a freshwater turtle that is listed as CR (Critically Endangered) in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2022).

This turtle species have dark to brown carapace with oval shape. Their plastrons usually have yellow colors with numerous black dots. Their foreheads are somewhat elongated, bald and light brown. They always have four ocelli eyes or fake eyes behind their head, hence come the name Four-eyed Turtle.

Four – eyed Turtle occurs in Viet Nam, eastern Lao PDR and southern China. In Vietnam, the Four-eyed Turtle has been found in creeks and stream inside forests and some wetlands in the central and northern regions of the country, particularly from Khanh Hoa northward.
